     Welcome to the Dell Rapids Child Care Providers Network! Our members are dedicated to loving and caring for children each day. 
     If you are just starting a child care business, let us help alleviate your fears or concerns by joining our network of caregivers and friends.
     By accessing the resources offered on this website and by attending the Network's monthly meetings, we hope to answer your questions and provide friendship and ongoing support for your business as well as your soul!

Providers Monthly Meeting

      The Dell Rapids Area Child Care Providers will meet from 7-8:30pm on Monday, November 9th, at the Reformed Church in Dell Rapids. Staff from the Department of Child Services will discuss "Topic to be announce later," and the class will qualify as creditable hours.
     Child care may be available during the meeting. For questions or more information, call Sherry Petrik at 428-4639.

Creditable Training Hours for Child Care Providers

      Attention Child Care Providers: Registered providers must complete 6 training credits per year, or 12 credits every 2 years. 
      Before an initial registration is issued, the applican must complete and become certified in infant-child cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) through either the American Heart Association, the American Red Cross, or another entity that provides the applicant with hands-on skills testing as part of the training. The CPR certification must remain valid at all times. 
      Time devoted to learning about the following topics can be counted as credit:

  • Basic first aid. This must occur during the first year of registration.
  • Program health and safety.
  • Learning environments.
  • Child growth and development.
  • Guidance and behavior management.
  • Detecting and reporting child abuse and neglect.
  • Communication and relations with staff.
  • Food handling techniques.
  • The identification and prevention of communicable diseases.
  • Cultural diversity.
  • Nutrition for children.
  • Age appropriate activities and planning.
  • Professionalism.
  • Partnerships with parents.
  • Inclusion of all children.
  • Program management and regulation.

      Hours spent planning and implementing curriculum for preschool programs cannot be counted toward training hours. This includes programs like Carol's Affordable Curriculum and Creative Curriculum. 
      Providers may only obtain 3 hours per year by reading books or watching videos.
